Newcastle upon Tyne

Last year returning from Glasgow  my train passed through Newcastle, looking  out the window it looked interesting. Not to mention  one of  my fave  shows Vera takes place there. It was just over an hour train from York and I arrived it was raining a bit but  not heavy.  I walked around to get my bearings and visited a  church, and I found where  Taste of  Persia was as that was going to be my meal treat.

I visited St  Nicholas  Cathedral, it was a beautiful old church built in 12th and added it too many times over the years. They had tea and cookies some as I yakked with  a girl who was pouring tea  mentioned watching  "Vera" set in Newcastle she told me several places nearby that was used for filming.

I was getting hungry so I walked back to the Persian restaurant  and ordered Lamb stew it was so good. I walked past the ruins of the old castle and across Swing  Bridge and just enjoyed the view.  I was walking the streets  and looking up and in the distance there  was the "angel"  the woman at the  church told me about so I headed towards it. Then I came across some elephants, and found  out they were part of fundraising for St  Oswald's hospice. I found another church and it started rain so I looked in shops  before I caught train back to York.

York return

I last was in  York back in the late 1988 and decided to make a return visit. I caught the  train,  arrived and headed out to  find my B and B. I had trouble  finding it asked a  woman  at the tourist board  for directions it  was a bit of a hike but finally found it. I headed to town I walked past the, the cathedral and Metropolitan church of St Peter aka York Minster into town. I was in search of a restaurant  The Black Swan I  found it but because a tour bus was arriving I was unable to have a meal and  headed back to area  of town and found The York  Roast company and  had a very delish YorkyPud wrap.

Back in London

Since there was a hurricane I  was worried I would not make  it to Philadelphia in  time for my flight we left late  but  arrived in  plenty of time to make my flight  to London.   The fight over to London, since the winds were behind we arrived 45 minutes early. I  hopped the tube into Kings Cross and headed to my  hotel after a 45 minute  nap  I headed  out. I headed to Regents Park to see Frieze Sculpture display it was in  the English garden which is one of my fave areas.  It was a short walk from my hotel.

I  headed back to my hotel, and had an early evening. In the morning after  breakfast  I checked out for the first part of my adventure a visit to my cousin who lives near Shrewsbury  and then a visit to York.  I also decided that since I was coming  and going from  London, I left my suitcase at my hotel and just took 2 small bags for the trip. Made the trip alot easier not hauling my case.

I had a nice visit with my cousin and hubby a token trip to Wales as it is close drive  had a lovely cod fish dinner in a pub. Since we arrived at the train station early I told my cousin  about the Beatles statues at the Severn theater and we took a quick walk to see while her husband kept our spot by the station. Then caught  the train to York
